Creating a Character in Venice

Building a custom Character in Venice involves several steps that build on each other to create a cohesive personality. Each element contributes to the character's ability to maintain consistent, knowledgeable interactions across conversations.

1. Start building your Character

The character creation process begins with a blank canvas, allowing you to design exactly the personality you need. In the sidebar click “Characters”, and then click the "+" button in Characters to open the creation interface, where you'll find all the tools needed to bring your AI companion to life.

2. Add a name and description for your Character

In the first two input fields, please enter the name and description of your Character. For this example we’ll create Leonardo da Vinci.

3. Click auto-generate to generate a personality and avatar for your Character

This step involves crafting instructions that shape how they think and communicate. The foundation of any effective Character lies in defining its personality, and an avatar makes your interactions with your Character feel more vibrant and personal.

4. Enrich your Character with knowledge context

Characters can be enhanced with specialized knowledge through our document analysis capabilities. Upload documents up to 5MB to create true experts in specific fields, whether you're building a coding tutor or a historical figure.

Here we’ll upload Leonardo da Vinci’s famous book “Treatise on Painting” by dragging and dropping your file in the context window.

5. Start chatting with your Character

Once your Character is ready, you can begin interacting immediately. Click the blue "Save" button to create your Character, and Venice will take you directly to the chat interface. Your Leonardo da Vinci Character will now respond based on his defined personality, expertise, and knowledge from the "Treatise on Painting" we uploaded.

6. Settings: Make your character available to the public

If you’re particularly happy with a Character you created, feel free to share it with the public. Head over to your Character’s settings menu by clicking the avatar. Click settings on the left, and you will find the Public toggle.

You can also web-enable you Character here so it can access up-to-date information, as well as change the model used and other advanced settings.
